The St. Joseph County (Indiana) Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance of 1275 center line miles of roadway and right of way. The road maintenance we provide includes settings that range from very congested suburban developments and businesses in the northeastern part of the county to the rural agricultural areas in the southern parts of the county.

St. Joseph County is the 17th largest county in the state of Indiana, which has a area of nearly 500 square miles.

Our highway department serves a population of 73,369 residents who live in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Our mission at the St. Joseph County Highway Department is to serve public safety on our roadways and to provide the best possible maintenance in the most cost effective manner possible.
